During the 2026 Triennial Meeting of the International Organization for Forensic Odonto-Stomatology (IOFOS), held in Lisbon, Portugal, from 9 to 11 September 2026, Dr. Nikolaos Christoloukas, from Greece, was awarded the Sakher Alqahtani Award IOFOS 2026 for Best Student Oral Communication.

The award recognised the oral communication entitled “Sex estimation based on maxillary sinus analysis using Cone-Beam Computed Tomography in an adult Greek population.”

The research was authored by Iason Tsangas, Nikolaos Christoloukas, Anastasia Mitsea, and Christos Angelopoulos.

The Sakher Alqahtani Award IOFOS 2026 was presented to Dr. Christoloukas during the IOFOS General Assembly 2026, in recognition of the quality of the research and its presentation at the Triennial Meeting.

The award highlights the contribution of emerging researchers to the advancement of forensic odontology and acknowledges scientific work presented by students within the international IOFOS community.

Dr. Archana Muralidharan, from India, was named the recipient of the Sakher Alqahtani Award IOFOS 2026 for Best Poster Presentation at the 2026 Triennial Meeting of the International Organization for Forensic Odonto-Stomatology (IOFOS).

Her award-winning poster, “Sex estimation from mandibular measurements: a retrospective Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) study using discriminant function analysis,” presented research exploring the application of mandibular measurements obtained through CBCT imaging to sex estimation in forensic contexts.

The study was authored by Rathin Narayan, Archana Muralidharan, Arsh Kalia, and Ceena Denny.

The award was formally presented during the IOFOS General Assembly 2026, as part of the Triennial Meeting held in Lisbon, Portugal, from 9 to 11 September 2026.

Through the Sakher Alqahtani Award, IOFOS recognises and encourages high-quality scientific contributions from students and emerging researchers in forensic odontology. Dr. Muralidharan’s distinction celebrates both the scientific merit of the work and its effective presentation to the international forensic odontology community.

Dr. Ana Rodrigues, from Portugal, has been awarded the Ferdinand Strøm Award 2026 during the Triennial Meeting of the International Organization for Forensic Odonto-Stomatology (IOFOS), held in Lisbon, Portugal, from 9 to 11 September 2026.

The award recognised the research work entitled “Dental age assessment from OPG using transfer learning CNN regression: a tool for judicial decision-making (AIdentifyAGE)”, highlighting the application of artificial intelligence and dental imaging to age assessment in a forensic and judicial context.

The winning work was authored by Cristiana Palmela Pereira, Ana Rodrigues, Valon Nushi, António Figueiras, Mohamed Elbawab, Arlindo Oliveira, Cátia Vaz, Rui Santos, and Alexandre Francisco.

Instituted by the IOFOS General Assembly in 2001, the Ferdinand Strøm Award honours the legacy of Ferdinand Strøm (1904–1990), a Norwegian dentist and one of the international pioneers of forensic odontology. The award was established with the purpose of encouraging young researchers to undertake and develop scientific research in the field of forensic odontology.

Dr. Rodrigues received the Ferdinand Strøm Award 2026 during the IOFOS General Assembly 2026, recognising the scientific contribution of the AIdentifyAGE project and its innovative approach to dental age assessment.

By supporting promising young researchers and innovative scientific work, the Ferdinand Strøm Award continues to reflect the pioneering spirit of its namesake and IOFOS’s commitment to advancing research and future developments in forensic odontology.
